A Travellers Guide to Forager's Newhome by Peter R Stone:

Travellers Guide to Newhome

Welcome to Newhome, a town complete with modern facilities and comprehensive services, situated directly north-west of the ruins of Melbourne’s Central Business District. Below are some tips to help you enjoy your stay with us.

Be Prepared for an Extended Stay

You are not permitted to leave the town for any reason.* This is for your own wellbeing, because it's not safe out there. Skel roam the ruins night and day, and we don't want you bumping into one of them, do we.

* Unless you’re a town sanctioned forager. And if you are, we wish you luck. You're going to need it, too. For if you’re caught by the Skel - well, let's just say we won't be making any rescue missions.

Observe the Town's Quaint Customs

Newhome boasts a unique culture which recognises the diverse roles played by males and females in a modern society. If you are female, note that young women are not permitted outside without a suitable chaperone. Furthermore, women may not speak without permission, are barred from school, and may not enter the workforce. If you are male, take care that you're never alone with an unmarried woman apart from a member of your family, for sexual misconduct is dealt with severely. The moral fabric of society must be upheld. Please also note that only authorised books may be read. This is for your protection. We don't want any subversive ideas popping into your heads, now do we?

Report Any Mutants

All mutations must be reported to the Custodians immediately. We all know the importance of keeping the human race pure, don't we?

Respect the Law

The Custodians are here for your protection. Ignore malicious rumours claiming they abuse their authority. These rumours are baseless slander. If you hear someone spreading such slander, report them to the nearest Custodian immediately.

All Citizens are Equal

All citizens in Newhome are equal enjoy equal rights. However, some citizens have more to contribute to society than others, and if they're lucky, they may win the right to move into Newhome's exclusive North End district.

The Thrilling Conclusion to the Forager Trilogy

Eighteen-year-old Ethan Jones, Nanako, and the other foragers have fled Newhome after being accused of being terrorists.

However, with Captain Smithson's parting words of "Don't forget us," ringing in their minds, they realise the only way to save Newhome from the Hamamachi Rangers and their Skel allies is to document and expose the Rangers' villainy.

Yet what sounds like a workable plan is nothing of the sort, for they have to journey into the very heart of Skel territory to obtain the information they need.

Leigh's warning that "nothing ever goes as you want or plan it to," turns out to be prophetic. An assassin, a botched raid, and the Skel and Rangers stopping at nothing to prevent them from revealing the Rangers' activities all complicate matters.

To add to their woes, a word whispered in Ethan's ear by a new addition to their party brings his world crashing down about his ears. Moreover, should he share this information with Nanako, all her hopes and dreams for the future will be destroyed as well. The question is - how long can he keep such a secret from her?

The Last of Us

One of my hobbies is searching online for wallpapers of post apocalyptic ruined cities. Last week I stumbled across images from a game called 'The Last of Us.'

The Last of Us is a third-person Survival-Action game that utilizes choices in gameplay action to develop the game storyline, as well as the relationship between the two main characters, Joel and Ellie, made exclusively for the PS3 system. The game features a combination of combat, exploration, stealth, and platforming game mechanics.

At first I was crushed to see that it was not available on PC (it is only for Playstation 3) but then in seeing that it is 'R' rated in Australia, I realised I wouldn't be playing it anyway. All the same, the images from the game are astounding. See below. I could just imagine the world of Forager looking like this.

Infiltrator, Forager Book Two, Now Available

Now available for $2.99 on
Amazon Kindle in Kindle format
Smashwords in ePub, mobi, lrf, pdf, pdb, txt formats.

For eighteen-year-old Ethan Jones, Nanako, and the surviving members of his foraging team, the trip back to Newhome is a nightmarish journey fraught with danger. When they do get back to Newhome, Nanako's dreams of a normal life are shattered when Ethan's jilted ex-fiancé makes it her personal goal to turn Nanako's life into a living hell. And as if that isn't enough, she and Ethan fall afoul of a senior officer of the town's draconian Custodian police force. To complicate matters, more memory fragments from Ethan's missing year surface, bewildering him with their horrific implications - what exactly did he get up to with the Hamamachi Rangers two years ago? Did they - did he - really commit such heinous crimes? Furthermore, a Hamamachi Ranger who used to have the hots for Ethan stumps him when she asks if Nanako has told him the dreadful things that happened to her after she was dumped back in Hamamachi two years ago. What are these disturbing secrets from her past that Nanako is hiding from him? Against this backdrop of personal anguish, the Hamamachi Rangers and ferocious Skel, dead set upon revenge, unleash their diabolical plan against Newhome. But how far will they go in their quest for vengeance? Can the Custodians stop them, or should Ethan risk his life again by stepping up to help save the town, going against Nanako and her insistence that he stay away from combat because she can't bear the thought of losing him.

Forager, A Dystopian Novel, Now Available
Available in Kindle Format
And Paperback

Eighteen-year-old Ethan Jones has a secret that even his parents and foraging companions don't know. And if that secret is discovered, he'll be dragged away by the town's draconian paramilitary Custodians to be dissected like a frog.

The only time he feels safe, the only time he feels free, is when he's out in the ruins of 2122 AD Melbourne, foraging for scrap metals. The dull, drudgery of his life, however, is shattered when he rescues a mysterious Japanese girl from the degenerate, savage Skel. A girl who then breaks the town's rigid conventions in her attempts to get to know him, a girl who also carries the pain of a broken heart.

Meanwhile, the nomadic Skel savages are ramping up their attacks on Newhome's foraging teams and infesting Melbourne's ruins in ever greater numbers. Is this part of a larger plan that could spell the town's doom?

Kindle version cover artwork by Peter R Stone.

The softcover book-jacket art was completed by my friend, David Hamono, yesterday, and here is what it looks like - absolutely fantastic.

The Custodians in 'Forager'

The Custodians paramilitary police force in Forager wear Australian army uniforms and helmets, and use Australian army F88 Austeyr Assault-Rifles, as seen in the below photographs. The only difference is that they also wear kevlar armoured vests. When Newhome was initially built one hundred years ago, its inhabitants obtained these Australian army arms and equipment by raiding an Australian army barracks, such as the Puckapunyal Army Base, which is 10 km west of Seymour in Victoria.
